- 2015 Student Portfolio Review Event
Students were invited to join IDIBC on March 19 to learn the skills necessary to stand out to potential employers and to make valuable business contacts.
There were door prizes, small bites, drinks, and then:
Portfolio Review: students came prepared to showcase their portfolios. They met with Registered interior designers and got valuable feedback to help them prepare a stand-out portfolio for job interviews. This quick-paced, "speed-dating" format equipped them with the information needed to get hired.
Panel discussion: Students learned about the new educational standards and how they apply to them.
Mingling: attendees rubbed shoulders with design professionals in the industry and got to know like-minded design enthusiasts.

- 2014 Student Charrette at IDSwest
Event took place at IDSwest 2014 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Students from various design schools in BC participated in the charrette. Students were briefed on Thursday evening about the context and design challenge and then grouped at random and this was the first time they had worked together.
The challenge was to create a micro-loft in Vancouver of no more than 250 square feet. Each loft had to accommodate at least two adults. Students were given the total floor plate and were to craft a portion of that space for their design.
Groups met and completed their design challenge on Friday, September 26, 2014 at IDSwest. Designers and Trade Show attendees could walk up and ask questions as the students worked. They had 6 hours to complete their designs. They then presented their design challenges on the Grey Magazine Design Stage in the late afternoon.
The winning team was chosen and invited to attend the IDC/IDIBC Shine Awards that evening.
The winning team called themselves “Sub Zero”
Steven Lee from Langara
Yvonne Lum from BCIT
Ken Glass from AI
Terra Fenn from VIU
Danielle Robinson from KPU
Kathie-Lee Pugsley from KPU.
The judges felt that the solution was dynamic, well presented, and showed strong design thinking. The judges were asked the question “Would you want to live here”- and they responded: “YES!”
